East to the Dawn by Susan Butler

A wonderfully written biography about Amelia Earhart (1897-1937) based on thorough research and information, the book starts with Amelia’s childhood, capturing her development as pioneer pilot, her amazing and record breaking flights such as the Atlantic crossing in 1928 all the way to her tragic disappearance when attempting to go around the world.

Not only do we learn about the challenges of flying during these days, also normal life and social indifferences are pointed out as Amelia was one of the front runners to fight for female rights within society using her power and publicity to achieve e.g. access to university for female students on technical subjects.

Interesting reading not only for a curious pilot chick, but also for people interested in history and social development and certainly a very good example of an impressive woman with a strong fighter spirit and dedication to reach not only her own goals, but to leave a footprint behind.
